Mike Matusow - All about The Mouth

Tuesday, August 02, 2005

Joseph Hachem defeated 5618 players, including the second place finisher Steve Dannenmann, to win the main event at the 2005 World Series of Poker. His victory earned him a record breaking $7.5 million dollars and also cast him forever into the poker limelight. For one year, he will travel the world and be the ambassador to poker.

Hachem is a native of Lebanon, but in 1972, he and his family moved to Melbourne, Australia. He is married with four children. A chiropractor by trade, he gave that up a few years ago after a developing a rare blood disorder in his hands. While taking time off to consider his future, he began to play poker. He said, "I started in casinos, but in the past two years, I've been playing online a lot." When he isn't playing online or at the Crown Casino, he runs a small brokering business in Pascoe Vale.

Oy! Oy!

From CardPlayer.com-

Hand 232 - Steve Dannenmann has the button, he raises to $700,000, and Hachem calls. The flop comes 6h-5d-4d, Hachem checks, Dannenmann bets $700,000, Hachem raises to $1,700,000, and Dannenmann calls. The turn card is the As, Hachem bets $2,000,000, and Dannenmann slowly raises to $5,000,000, Hachem reraises all in, and Dannenmann immediately calls. Hachem shows 7c-3s (seven-high straight), while Dannenman has Ad-3c (top pair). Dannenmann needs to catch a seven on the river to chop the pot with equal straights.
The entire crowd is on their feet as the river card comes. There are only three cards that can keep Hachem from becoming champion.

The river card is the 4c! Joseph Hachem has just become the 2005 World Series of Poker champion!
